Why should you get your filter replaced... and why cartridge filters are the BEST
If you currently have a D.E. or sand filter, it’s a really good idea to get those replaced because they require backwashing. This means you have to flood your yard every 2 weeks or so, and the media that gets expelled from the filter from backwashing can be hazardous to your pets, kids, and family.
Sand filters use fine silica sand, with a fine silt that can be kicked up and inhaled, causing respiratory issues, and has even been linked to lung cancer.
D.E. filters use a media called “Diatomaceous Earth,” which can sound harmless because it’s basically dead plant fossils – however, D.E. is even more dangerous than silica sand – it’s extremely carcinogenic. Long term exposure has been heavily correlated to many lung issues and lung cancer as well.
These media you are backwashing out are not safe if you have pets or kids playing anywhere near the area where you backwash, or if the wind kicks any of this stuff up! As well, backwashing in general is kind of a pain – and a messy job that is nice to be rid of.

All Pentair/Hayward/First Choice cartridge filter installations include new plumbing necessary to have it functioning properly within warranty requirements. All new filters come with a one-year manufacturer warranty. We will offer a quote on re-plumbing from the ground up if desired or needed at the time of installation.
Clean pool plumbing that's done to last
Our installers take pride in their work, ensuring that any pool plumbing is done by the book, and they work smart/hard to ensure that it actually looks good. Pool plumbing can take a lot of experience to be done right, and even more experience to not look like a mangled mess. All of our filter installation plumbing is painted, and any old pipes that are not replaced are given a fresh coat of neutral colored paint, to not only protect them, but to also make sure that they are not an eyesore in your yard. We always follow a process to ensure that each install goes as smoothly as possible, ensuring best results every time.
Initial assessment of the equipment and plumbing with a free estimate
First things first, we have to know what we are working with. Our team will come out and inspect the foundation under the current setup, check out the equipment area to see how tight or open the space is (where the filter is), then we will inspect the old pipes and how they are currently to see how much plumbing is required to do the job. Of course, we include a free estimate and consultation during this initial assessment and will discuss the situation and how much it will cost with you.
Cutting the pipes, removing the old filter, and prepping the area
On the scheduled installation day, our experts will bring in the new filter and get to work cutting the pipes – either from a few inches above the ground (which is usually recommended) or from the most logical place to tie back into the new filter. We’ll then take out the old filter, old foundation if required (placing a new one down), and any piping scraps from the cutting, making sure to prep and clean up the area properly. We do thorough work here, no detail is missed and nothing is done haphazardly.
Installation of your new cartridge filter
Once everything is ready, we’ll proceed to clean and strip the old pipes we are connecting to for the new plumbing to connect seamlessly and securely. Then we get to work placing the filter in proper orientation so that the pressure gauge is easily visible and the air relief is not pointing towards anything electrical. After that, we begin dry building the plumbing up to the new filter in the most logical way to ensure no mistakes. Finally we bond everything together, paint the plumbing, and fully test the system to ensure no leaks.

They are simply the best all around filters with the least hassle and least ongoing maintenance, as well as being the safest and most effective type of filter. Diatomaceous earth filters give slightly better filtration quality, but the difference is marginal.
We install Pentair, Hayward, and First Choice filters. Some people have a brand preference when it comes to getting a new filter; however, we have seen fantastic long-term results with all of these standard brands.
